Herbal foot soaks have been used for many years in countries in Asia, Europe and all around the world to help maintain good health and wellbeing
Foot soaking, done correctly will strongly boost your peripheral blood circulation, and relax your nervous system which is why they are a go-to for painful conditions and to relax the body.
Team this with a wonderful delivery system for herbal medicine (transdermal absorption)and you have one powerful treatment you can do at home!
Because of it’s regulatory effects I often recommend my clients to do herbal foot soaks between treatments to boost the effects of the acupuncture but it’s also a wonderful maintenance tool to do even on a weekly basis to keep you feeling good.
It’s also a good excuse to take some time out for yourself and relax. If you don’t have time to do a 30 minute foot soak then I think we have found the cause of a lot of your health issues 😉
Foot soak instructions
1. Put 2-3 bags of prescribed herbs into a basin that will comfortably fit your feet with your soles flat on the bottom. You can also add a cup of Epsom salts to this mix if you like for it’s added benefits of calming the nervous system down.
2. Add around 3 litres of boiling water to the basin and put it aside for 30 minutes to let it infuse.
3. After 30 minutes (or longer) add cold water to a) bring water level above ankle bone and b) bring water temp to around 42 degrees. It needs to be hot! It’s best if you have a thermometer to check the water temperature so you don’t burn yourself. For optimal results it’s best if you can to add some more hot water half way through the soak to bring the temperature back up as it will start to cool rapidly after 10-15 minutes.
4. Soak for 20-30 minutes in a comfortable and relaxed position. Soak one hour away from eating.
Most people find that it works well to get the soak set up after dinner so your nice and relaxed for bedtime. You will sleep like a baby!
I have been fortunate enough to have come into contact with a small company that have been working hard to bring wild crafted, sustainable superior quality herbs from Tibet and China where they are also supporting the locals. They have been making these herbs available to a select number of health care practitioners in the west and I have been lucky enough to be one of them so if you have any further questions about the foot soaks, what’s in them and how they can help you then send me an e-mail at info@thegentledragon.com.au and I will be happy to guide you as much as possible.
